Most Frequently Asked Questions

At times, part-time caregiving may not suffice, and concerns for the well-being of your aging loved ones might persist when you cannot be with them constantly. Whether it’s for a short-term or long-term arrangement, continuous care can offer improved sleep and a safer living environment. Here are some frequently asked questions regarding 24-hour home care for seniors:

To determine if continuous monitoring is the right choice, consider the following factors:

  • Does the person have trouble sleeping through the night or wake up more than 2-3 times per night?
  • Is the person experiencing difficulty with mobility and at a high risk of falling?
  • Has the person recently been discharged from the hospital or requires constant monitoring?
  • Is the person's spouse or relative exhausted from providing care both day and night?

If one or more of these statements resonate with your situation, you might want to explore the option of 24-hour home care.

With 24-hour care, your loved one receives continuous attention without breaks, as multiple caregivers can rotate shifts as needed. At Pacific West Home Care, 24-hour home care involves active supervision throughout the day and night, with shifts typically lasting 8 or 12 hours per caregiver. In some cases, you may initiate 24-hour care and later adjust the schedule to part-time or occasional care (e.g., after hospital discharge). Conversely, you might escalate to 24-hour home care if the condition worsens. We collaborate with you to establish a flexible care plan tailored to your requirements. Keep in mind that 24-hour care doesn't have to be continuous; you can opt for a 24-hour block once or twice a week.

Our care services are personalized to suit your unique needs, and we understand that 24-hour care may be urgently needed. We can often accommodate your schedule within 48 hours.* Here's what to anticipate during the complimentary consultation and the subsequent steps:

  • Caregiver Selection: We'll work with you to find the perfect caregiver based on your and your loved one's needs.
  • Care Plan and Schedule: A care plan will be developed, and a schedule will be created to ensure everyone's needs are met.

*Please note that the timing of care provision may vary depending on your specific needs and caregiver availability.

We will keep you informed about the schedule details, ensuring you know who will be providing care and when. During the initial visit, one of our expert Care Designers will introduce you to the caregiver and provide you with a communication book, which serves as a binder for family members to collaborate with the care team.

After the first week, we'll review the care plan together to incorporate any observations we've made. Ongoing assessments are an integral part of Pacific West Home Care's 24-hour care offering. Above all, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved one is receiving constant care and is safe. Contact a Care Specialist today for answers to your questions by calling 1-604-991-1286
